Under the theme “PRISM: From Pure Light to Shining Vision”, the Department of Media and Communication(DMC) recognized outstanding student achievements in media, communication, journalism, and creative arts for the for the Academic Year 2025 - 2026, during the KOM Awards 2026, held on May 22, at the Adamson University Theater.

The event opened with a warm welcome address from the College of Education and Liberal Arts (CELA) Acting Dean, Fr. Rock Enriquez, C.M., Who emphasized Adamson University’s commitment to honoring students’ talents and preparing them to contribute meaningfully beyond the university community.

“Today, we celebrate students who allowed their light to shine. We honor those who excel not only in academics, but in creativity, leadership, innovation, collaboration, and expression across the many disciplines of media and communication,” he expressed.

The event also featured a message from the head of the event, Mr. Argyll Cyrus Geducos, who reflected on the diversity of talents within the department and how each student contributes their own voice and creativity to the field of communication.

“Just like a prism, this department does not produce only one kind of communicator. It reveals a spectrum of talents. Unique, original, and fearless,” he expressed.

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱

Several Communication students were honored under the Strategic Communication and Campaigns category for their innovative campaign initiatives.

For Communication, Culture and Society, the Best Social Media Campaign award was presented to “CTRL + AI: An Unwavering Addiction.”

In the Social Media and Mobile Technology Communication, special awards for Best Mobile Application were given to different student groups under various specializations. “TUNE IN,” developed by Martin Otero, Jana Tunguia, and Marcel Albeza, won under Algorithmic Systems and Innovation. Zeth Lacson, Jury Leynes, and Kianne Delos Reyes were also recognized under Networked Communication, while Rendell Manuel, Ramses Opena, and Jerome Quitoriano earned honors under Numerical Computing.

Under Communication Management, LockByte Collectives won Best Press Conference Simulation for Block 1, while Team LIGA-nim secured the same award for Block 2. Carl EJ Pollicar and Rosemarie Lim were also recognized as Best Student Spokesperson for Blocks 1 and 2, respectively.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲

Communication students also showcased their artistic talents in the Performing Arts and Creative Expression category.

For Music Appreciation and Basic Composition, the Best Commercial Jingle award went to the “MOGU-MOGU” Team. Jeana Vince Almonte and Joshua Meredor won Best Original Pop Song Composition, while “Pagsapit ng Dilim,” “Kamiseta,” and “Rosa” received recognition for Best Original Showtunes.

Under Introduction to Theater Arts, numerous students were recognized for their performances and stage portrayals. Ronelli Inoceno won Best Kapitbahay, Bianca Heraldo earned Best Albularo, Jackielou Almajose received Best ka-Maldang and Best Female Ensemble, while Jury Leynes was named Best Ka-Ugong.

Michael Rebacar won Best Tagapagsalaysay, Lawrence San Juan secured Best Pusa, and Block 302 received the Best Flash Mob award. Francis Ong and Michaela Penalver were recognized as Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress, respectively, while Romeo Guillermo and Jana Tunguia won Best Featured Actor and Best Featured Actress.

For Introduction to Film, “Wala Namang Dulo ang Sirkulo” won the Best Editing Award, “He’s Higher than You” received both the Best Sound and Best Production Design, while “The Dropout” earned the Best Cinematography Award. Cathleen Marfil of Circle-O Productions was recognized as Best Director and Best Screenplay, while “He’s Higher than You” secured the Best Picture Award.

𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀

Communication students also garnered multiple recognitions in the Digital Media and Emerging Tech category, headed by Mr. Jhoseplex Inocalla.

Second-year students dominated the Basic Photography course awards, with William De Belen winning Best Photographer. The group “Alice in Underland” also received the Best Themed Ensemble Photography award.

In the Basic Photo Submission categories, Patricia Ceneta won for “Hiyas ng Kapaskuhan,” Bea Myrcez Villareal for “Paskong Kinagisnan,” Jea Mae Esparza for “Salaysay ng Kapaskuhan,” and William Patrick De Belen for “Handog ng Kaligayan.”

For the Audio-Video Editing Laboratory course, Justine Ethan Malilay received the Best Cross-Platform Editor award, while Marcel Andrea Albeza won Best Dynamic Lyric Video. “Story of Bao” was likewise recognized as Best Animated Storybook.

Under the Digital Imaging and Editing Laboratory course, Jodie Michaela Dantes earned both Best Layout Artist and Best Image Editor awards, while Raian Alexia Escopete received the Best Vector Character Design award. The team behind “On the Field” also won the Best Magazine Layout award.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴

The momentum continued as Wave 3 of the KOM Awards turned the spotlight towards achievements in Journalism and Media Practice.

The Falcon Quill’s Editor in Chief, Amber Gabrielle M. Dada, reflected on the unexpected victory as they won the Best Publication Award for Journalism Principles and Practices.

“I didn’t expect to win any awards at all,” she shared. “I'm proud of my work, but I'm also grateful that God didn't let me do it all alone and brought me smart, funny people who lifted the publication with me to the best it can be.”

Moreover, “Maniobra” won the Second Best Publication, while “The Veracity” won Third Best.

For Radio Production, Martin Glen S. Otero won Best Radio Disk Jockey; Michael T. Recabar as Best Voice-over Talent; and Alan V. Capati as Best Radio Drama Production. Additionally, the Best Community and Public Service Award went to “Kida Kwela.”

Under Writing for Radio and Television, “Kumbensyon ng mga Halimaw” won Best Radio Drama Script, and Best Sitcom Teleplay went to “Ohana.”

In the Broadcasting Journalism Principles and Practices category, Alyzza Mae Mariano won Best Female Field Reporter, while Jobick Paul Supsupin won Best Male Field Reporter. Jackielou Almajose earned Best Female Co-Anchor, while the Best Male Co-Anchor was John Rain Corre. For the main anchor roles, Zeth Ysabelle Lacon was named Best Female Main Anchor, and Arlance Rhaniell Maceda was named Best Male Main Anchor. Lastly, the “Falcon News Today” won Best Newsbreak.

Recognized as Outstanding Internship Journal winners were Jerica Isabel C. Masculino (Cornerstone Entertainment), Pauline Batica (Aika Events and Productions), and Seraph Trinity Rose C. Macuja (ISCI-Belo Essentials).

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀

The paper titled “The Sawsawan Model of Interpersonal Relationships: Reframing URT’s Theorem 17” clinched the award for Best Communication Theory Paper, while “The Origami Communication Model” was named Best Communication Model.

Meanwhile, Development Communication recognized “Lakad Laya Kontra Substance Abuse (R3SETA)” as Best Development Communication Plan, and “The Student & Employee Union” took home the Best Development Communication Implementors.

The category for Risk, Disaster, and Humanitarian Communication highlighted critical crisis-response initiatives. The “Typhoon Response Simulation” secured the Best Simulated Risk Disaster Management Plan, while the “Ifugao Earthquake Preparedness Campaign” won Best Community-Based Risk Communication Campaign Kit. Rounding out the disaster-mitigation category, “Handa Manila” received the Best DRRMO Community Disaster Communication App Proposal.

Moreover, “Ako ay May Kiki, Ako ay May T**i: A Narrative Study on the Tension Between Direct Language and Age-Appropriateness in Educational Children’s Book Focusing on Reproductive Health” bagged the Best Communication Research Proposal. “From Episodes to Edits: A Mixed Method Studies of Filipino Boys’ Love Series Fan Edits and the Perception of Heterosexual Men and Women of Romantic Relationship” won Second Best Communication Research Proposal, and Third Best Communication Research Proposal went to “Exploring Tiktok as a Platform for Fitness Content Creation Among Physically Disabled Coaches and Athletes in the Philippines”; and “Communication Period Poverty on TikTok: A Qualitative Content Analysis of Digital Advocacy Content.”

For Special Topics in Communication and Media, “What on Earth?! by Project E8 Production” won Best Event Concept, and Best Event Organizers went to “Evangelion Productions.”

Concluding the segment under Thesis awards, Eli Malychev Ramos captured the title of Best Undergraduate Thesis. Followed by Gavin B. Arceo, David Anthony C. Foenander, and Wendell T. Manalo, who earned Second Best Undergraduate Thesis. Third Best Undergraduate Thesis honors were shared by the group of Richard Joshua R. Francisco, Shannel C. Llave, and Carl EJ T. Pollicar.

A Tribute to Service

The final segment of the ceremony centered on the Special Awards for Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and Professional Organizations (POs), which were announced for their outstanding achievement, leadership, and dedication of students from the Department of Media and Communication throughout the academic year.

The Communication Society paid tribute to its outgoing officers and standout members from Falcon Radio, Komunikator, KOMAC, and KOMCINE, honoring their contributions to organizational leadership, media production, creative projects, and student service. Special citations were also handed out to exceptional executives, creatives, writers, and event organizers.

Furthermore, the department commended the student team behind Radio Veritas Campus Hour Session 12 for their dedication to campus media and broadcasting.

To formally conclude the 2026 Kom Awards, AdU-Communication President Jeana Vince Almonte took the stage to remind everyone that the heart of the Department of Media and Communication lies within its student body.

“I hope we always carry the same passion, the same heart for service, and the same love for our COMM-unity. Today is not only a celebration of achievements, but also a celebration of the people, the memories, the sacrifices, and the love we all give to the Department,” she stated.

The event wrapped up on an emotional note as she honored the graduating fourth-year students, accompanied by a rendition of “Seasons of Love.”

The annual KOM Awards reflected its theme, “PRISM: From Pure Light to Shining Vision,” by recognizing the growth of students who continuously transform simple ideas into meaningful achievements—symbolizing how a prism refracts pure light into a spectrum of brilliance. The event highlighted how the department’s top students harness their passion to create award-winning projects.
