The dialogue between ancient tradition and modern progress took center stage last April 17, 2026, as students gathered at the American Corner Iloilo (3rd Floor, HLL) for a timely seminar. This seminar was a successful collaboration between the Henry Luce III Library and the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) program, organized specifically by the BLIS class, SpT 3202: Indigenous Knowledge and Multiculturalism under Asst. Prof. Vince Ervin V. Palcullo.
The event, titled โ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ ๐ช๐ถ๐๐ฑ๐ผ๐บ ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฎ ๐ ๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ,โ featured an enlightening discussion led by Asst. Prof. Donne Jone P. Sodusta. Known to many as Kuya Donne or Teacher Donne, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Education at the Division of Professional Education, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV). Additionally, he is the Assistant Project Manager of the UPV Action Research Project.
The session focused on the delicate act of Indigenous Knowledge in the Modern World: Balancing Preservation and Exchange in Multicultural Spaces. The audience, comprising the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English (BSEd-E) first and second year students and the BLIS third year students, was challenged by Asst. Prof. Sodusta to think beyond the classroom. As future educators, communicators, and information stewards, the students engaged in a Q&A, reflecting their roles in keeping these โliving archivesโ alive. The seminar underscored that preserving indigenous wisdom isnโt just about looking backward; itโs about moving forward with respect and intentionality.
