CPU Henry Luce III Library

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝

The dialogue between ancient tradition and modern progress took center stage last April 17, 2026, as students gathered at the American Corner Iloilo (3rd Floor, HLL) for a timely seminar. This seminar was a successful collaboration between the Henry Luce III Library and the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) program, organized specifically by the BLIS class, SpT 3202: Indigenous Knowledge and Multiculturalism under Asst. Prof. Vince Ervin V. Palcullo.

The event, titled “𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱,” featured an enlightening discussion led by Asst. Prof. Donne Jone P. Sodusta. Known to many as Kuya Donne or Teacher Donne, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Education at the Division of Professional Education, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV). Additionally, he is the Assistant Project Manager of the UPV Action Research Project.

The session focused on the delicate act of Indigenous Knowledge in the Modern World: Balancing Preservation and Exchange in Multicultural Spaces. The audience, comprising the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English (BSEd-E) first and second year students and the BLIS third year students, was challenged by Asst. Prof. Sodusta to think beyond the classroom. As future educators, communicators, and information stewards, the students engaged in a Q&A, reflecting their roles in keeping these “living archives” alive. The seminar underscored that preserving indigenous wisdom isn’t just about looking backward; it’s about moving forward with respect and intentionality.
