Today marks the 49th anniversary of the grimmest hours in Philippine History, Partido Independiente echoes the cries of the victims and mourns the lives lost during the Martial Law proclaimed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos. Despite the horrors, the gross human rights violation committed against the Filipino people, and the oppression against the press and freedom of speech, many are in a belief that the country is in the state of the so-called β€œgolden era of the Philippines.”

As one of the Crucial events in our history, Partido Independiente aims to debunk and condemn the historical revisionism that is in support and applaud of the Martial Law declaration in the Philippines.

The Party believes that the rampant spreading of false claims has the power to change history. A simple rumor can be alleged as the truth in a month, and in fact in twenty years. Today, we are still at the age of challenging the ideas ingrained to us by our predecessors. And thus, uncovering inaccurate information such as the reality of Marcos’ rule, the real state of the economy, and not being blinded by media and pamphlets over which the dictator had control over during the Martial Law. As citizens, it is crucial to be observant when going over details. It is unfair for those who suffered if we were to carry their suffering by praising words for their oppressor. It is not right to continue disseminating the ideas of the so-called β€œgolden age of Philippine Economy” when it was just a foundation of loans. And lastly, it is improper to continue being uneducated about the actuality of the events during Martial Law, especially when it deals with the unjust killings of innocent people.
