PAGPUPUGAY SA MGA BAGONG ISKA MULA SA MATLANG NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Matlang National High School (MNHS) is honored to congratulate its three alumni who passed the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).

UPCAT is considered one of the hardest college entrance examinations in the Philippines. Here is a breakdown on how hard it is: First, the system is extremely competitive, as it is a percentile-based exam where applicants must rank among the top scorers. Second, there is the time pressure, as hundreds of questions must be answered within a limited time. Lastly, 0.25 points are deducted for every incorrect answer due to guessing.

According to Explained PH, this year there were 147,437 applicants nationwide, and only 18,350 qualified. Compared with last year’s 135,236 applicants, only 17,996 qualified. This shows only a 9% increase in the number of qualified applicants. Among this year’s qualifiers, three learners from Matlang NHS successfully qualified.

Baclea-an, Camugao, and Waminal have been sources of pride not only to their families but also to the MNHS community. Each has its own strengths in both academics and journalism.

“Baclea-an was never one for silence—she found her strength in using her voice. As a debate team leader, she led her group to the division-level semifinals. A natural leader, she became Editor-in-Chief of MNHS’ publication, known for her preparation and drive—culminating in her recognition as batch salutatorian.

Camugao is a silent fighter, driven by sharp intellect and keen insight. Excelling behind the lens, she reached the National Schools Press Conference and became Business Editor of MNHS’ publication. She balanced this with academic excellence, graduating as class valedictorian—proof that quiet strength is powerful.

Waminal has always been the silent leader—consistently showing up for herself and others. A long-time class president, she leads with quiet confidence, never seeking attention yet always delivering. As the News Editor of MNHS’ school publication, she produced remarkable results with precision and dedication—her achievements may not make much noise, but they consistently speak for themselves,” said Ma’am Bethuel Rose Sorote, STEM Adviser.

With this remarkable moment, Matlang NHS is honored to share their accomplishment: no matter how silent or outspoken a person is, as long as you have the strength to express yourself through action rather than noise, you can make an impact not only on yourself, but also on your community.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16

Good Friday reminds us of the immense love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who gave His life for the sins of humanity. Through His suffering and death, He offered forgiveness and redemption to all.

His final words, “Tetelestai” (“It is finished”), signify the fulfillment of His mission and the victory over sin.

On this holy day, let us come together in prayer and reflection with our loved ones. May we honor God’s grace and deepen our faith, finding peace, mercy, and hope in His sacrifice.

God bless you all.
