𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱, 𝗦𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼 𝗢𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗖𝗖 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁

A historic sequence of events unfolded at the Senate Session Hall on May 11, 2026, with the unexpected arrival of Senator Bato dela Rosa, who had been absent from Senate sessions since November 2025. Followed by the ouster of Senate President Vicente Sotto III and the House of Representatives (HOR) endorsing the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Upon entering the premises, Sen. Bato alleged that agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) had blocked his entry into the session hall and pursued him within the Senate compound, claiming they intended to serve an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The warrant is linked to a case involving allegations of crimes against humanity connected to former President Rodrigo Duterte.

This incident prompted an immediate Senate lockdown. No individuals, including NBI personnel and members of the media, were permitted to enter the premises. The Senate granted protective custody to Sen. Bato, while NBI agents present were cited for contempt and placed under Senate custody.

Amidst the turmoil, the Senate formally elected Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as the new Senate President, replacing Sen. Sotto in a 13–9–2 vote.

Shortly afterward, 255 lawmakers from the HOR voted in favor of articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte with. This officially marks her second impeachment, and the approved articles will now be transmitted to the Senate for trial.

Riding the waves of Beachela, Ayesa Venice Garde of The KCC Herald sailed to a 3rd Runner-Up finish at the 16th The Spectrum Fellowship (TSF) Icon competition, held May 6 at Nature’s Village Resort.

“At first, kabado siyempre kay indi gid ni ya usual thing for me to do, pero I was assured by the unfamiliarity. Nadula ang huya tungod indi ko pa kilala ang tanan so gi-push ko na lang kag gi-try ko best ko to make the most out of it, kag naka-enjoy gid ko.” Garde shared how she overcame her nervousness and embraced the unfamiliar experience with confidence and enjoyment.

The fellowship night concluded the first day of the three-day gathering of staffers from 16 student publications under the theme, “BALANGAY: Ilayag ang Kuwento, Ihatid ang Tao.”
