The Vital Signs

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆

While the world celebrates International Nurses Day with greetings and appreciation posts, nurses celebrate it by surviving a 12-hour duty with one pen missing, one coffee unfinished, and at least one patient saying, “Nurse, pwede po magpapalit ng bed sheet?” right after endorsing.

But somewhere between the charting, the rushed footsteps, the skipped meals, and the quiet “kaya ko pa,” lives the reason why nursing is more than a profession. Nursing is about showing up for people on the worst days of their lives and still choosing to deliver care gently, every single time.

To the nurses and future nurses who carry both stethoscopes and silent sacrifices—Happy International Nurses Day. The world may not always see the exhaustion behind the smile, but it will always remember the care you give to the people.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | The Vital Signs recognized the commitment and efforts of its Editorial Board and staff during a recognition ceremony held at the BU Gymnasium, East Campus last May 5, 2026.

The ceremony paid tribute to the individuals behind the publication, with service awards and medals given in appreciation of their work in campus journalism.

Selected staff members also received special distinctions, as endorsed by the previous Editorial Board, for their notable contributions and consistency throughout the academic year.

Honoring hard-earned sacrifices and academic excellence, student awardees of the Bicol University College of Nursing (BUCN) were recognized at the Annual College Recognition Rites yesterday, May 5.

With the theme “Values-Driven Workforce, Digitally Inclined Lifelong Learners,” the event served as a proud moment for the awardees and the families and mentors who stand behind their success.
