To the Parents Who Can’t Afford the “Extras” Right Now

Your child doesn’t have the newest clothes.
Sometimes their jeans are secondhand,
sometimes their shoes have a little wear.
They don’t show up with the latest toys,
or talk about expensive vacations.
Maybe you had to say no to dance lessons,
or put off that sports registration… again.

But please hear this:
You are not failing.

You are raising a child in love, not luxury.
And that love?
It’s showing up in quiet, powerful ways.

In the way you listen.
In the way you make hand-me-downs feel like treasure. In the way you turn one gift into magic on Christmas morning. In the way you laugh with them,
hug them, make space for their joy even when you’re carrying worry behind your eyes.

Your child may not have it all— but if they have you,
they have so much more than most.

They’re learning that fun doesn’t need a price tag.
That connection can be found in card games at the kitchen table, walks around the block, stories read from borrowed books.

And one day— when they’re grown and reflecting on their childhood— they won’t remember what they didn’t have.

They’ll remember how they felt.
Safe.
Seen.
Loved.

You’re giving them something deeper than stuff.
You’re giving them presence.
And that’s what shapes hearts far more than anything wrapped in shiny paper.

You’re doing a beautiful job,
even on the days it doesn’t feel like it.

You are both growing in your own beautiful ways—one full of energy, curiosity, and endless “why’s,” the other just starting to explore the world with tiny hands and bright eyes.

Every day with you is a gift. Watching one of you run ahead while the other snuggles close reminds me how fast time moves—and how precious these moments are.

You make my heart full, my days brighter, and my life so much more meaningful. I’ll always be here, cheering you on, holding your hands, and loving you with everything I have.
