In line with the directive of Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentino to strengthen livelihood opportunities and expand access to government assistance for vulnerable and marginalized workers, a total of 73 boat owners and operators, along with three cooperatives from Nasugbu, Batangas, participated in a series of orientations on Rural Workers Association (RWA) registration and the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) on June 24, 2026, at the Nasugbu Pavilion Beach Park, Nasugbu, Batangas.
Facilitated by DOLE Batangas DILP Focal Person, Ms. Salvacion R. Kalalo, together with Nasugbu Tourism Office and Public and Employment Office (PESO), the activity was geared towards empowering fisherfolks in establishing and registering their associations through DOLE RWA. Through formal organization, groups can expand their networks, and gain greater access to government programs and assistance.
Moreover, the activity also provided guidance to three cooperatives namely Riverside Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Aga Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Nasugbu Sugar Planters Agriculture Cooperative on how they can avail DOLE’s livelihood assistance.
As a coastal municipality blessed with abundant marine resources, many fisherfolk in Nasugbu seek to diversify their sources of income through additional livelihood ventures. While tourism provides significant earning opportunities during peak seasons, income becomes limited during off-season periods, leaving fishing as their primary source of livelihood.
Agriculture also remains a vital economic activity in the municipality thus partnerships with agencies remain essential in supporting their productivity and sustainability.
Through strengthened organizations, expanded livelihood opportunities, and responsive government support, DOLE remains committed to empowering fisherfolk, farmers, and rural workers toward sustainable livelihoods.
