Why Upper Respiratory Infections Increase During Rainy Season

Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) are more common during the rainy season due to changes in temperature, humidity, and increased viral transmission.

Common conditions include:
• Colds (viral upper respiratory infection)
• Pharyngitis (sore throat)
• Laryngitis (hoarseness or voice loss)
• Sinusitis (facial pain and nasal congestion)

Prevention and management:
• Frequent hand hygiene
• Adequate rest and hydration
• Avoid close contact with infected individuals
• Early consultation for persistent symptoms

Do not self-medicate for prolonged symptoms—consult an ENT if symptoms persist beyond a few days or worsen.
