I came across this post on Tipid Living page.

This is a common story of many breadwinners who have become the back-up plan of, not just their immediate family, but of their whole clan.

While this shows how Filipino values family, this kind of help isn’t healthy. This consumes the breadwinner up to a breaking point and, at the same time, it prevents the family from becoming independent.

So, the lesson here is to give what overflows.
Save yourself first before saving anyone else.
