What your kid eats: Real or fortified? What’s the difference? Aside from the usual pencils and papers, what do you prepare for your kids as they head back to school? For diligent parents, there is one back-to-school essential that must never be forgotten:

When it comes to fruits and veggies, it’s easy — what you see is what you get. 🍎🥦 But dairy? That’s trickier.

Some products are fortified — meaning nutrients like calcium or vitamin D were added after processing. Often, these “dairy” products are mostly oil, sugar, or water… with barely any real milk inside. 😬

Real whole food, on the other hand, has nutrients naturally present from the start. That’s why it’s so important to check the ingredients list. If nutrients appear in the ingredients, it means they were added artificially.
