4th week of September is National Thyroid Cancer Awareness Week!

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland at the base of the throat. This butterfly-shaped gland is crucial in keeping the body healthy. It releases certain hormones which can help control and regulate metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature.

You can perform a simple neck check self-exam to help with early detection and check for lumps or enlargements in the neck.

The month of April is recognized as National Hemophilia Awareness Month.
Hemophilia is a bleeding disorder, passed on from mothers, which affects the blood’s ability to clot. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding as well as bleeding following injuries or surgery. Blood contains many proteins called clotting factors that can help to stop bleeding.
People with hemophilia may need ongoing medical treatment to prevent bleeding. They may need to avoid certain activities and medications. But there are many things you can do to manage the impact hemophilia may have on the quality of your life.

March is National Colore**al Cancer Awareness Month

The best way to prevent colon cancer and re**al cancer is screening. Colore**al cancer is one of the most preventable and highly treatable cancers if caught early.

Department of Health (DOH) encourages people to maintain healthy lifestyle by engaging in physical activities, eating a balanced diet, reducing alcohol intake and avoiding smoking to decrease the risk of acquiring the disease.

December is Firecracker Injury Prevention Month, when government agencies and private organizations launch an anti-firecracker campaign to reduce injuries caused by the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices during the holiday celebration. Protection of the public, particularly children, from firework-related injuries is a main concern.
