A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the Moon.

But instead of vanishing into darkness, the Moon takes on a fiery red glow. This happens because sunlight must pass through Earth’s atmosphere before reaching the Moon.

Earth’s atmosphere acts like a giant prism— it bends sunlight and scatters the shorter blue and green wavelengths while letting the longer red and orange ones pass through. With red light able to travel the farthest, the Moon shines back at us like it’s cloaked in the colors of Earth’s sunset.

If you missed last night's lunar eclipse, don't let the 𝗡𝗘𝗫𝗧 𝗧𝗢𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗔𝗥 𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗦𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦 pass without witnessing it!
