Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the release of 24 Filipinos who have been detained in Siberia for the past nine months over immigration issues.

The breakthrough follows direct talks between President Putin and Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the opening plenary of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit. President Marcos welcomed the development, noting that the immediate repatriation of the affected citizens highlights the productive bilateral engagement between the two nations as they mark 35 years of dialogue relations.
