"Sa mga batang nandito na naka-house, siguro nagtataka kayo bakit namin pinili ito(ng Bahay Pag-asa). Dahil naniniwala si Benilde sa transformational change at gusto ko na maintindihan niyo 'yun at ma-inspire kayo. Pumunta ang mga ate at kuya niyo dito dahil naniniwala kami na ang pagbabago ay isang transpormasyon." - Ms. Cams, Service-Learning Unit Head
Last April 22, the SIGLA Batch of Interior Design Exhibit (INTDXHI) students conducted their project turnover to the De La Salle University - Dasmariñas, Bahay Pag-Asa, a 'transformation center for children in conflict with the law.' The students facilitated the renovation of the center's music hall and bakery. The program included messages from school heads and faculty advisers as well as a description of the process from the project managers. The highlight, however, is the musical performances of the Bahay Pag-asa youth through piano, flute, and choral numbers.
The Service-Learning Unit would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the Interior Design faculty for their efforts, patience, and perseverance in guiding the overall process and project implementation of the current batch. We would also like to thank the administrators of Bahay Pag-asa for opening its doors for our students so that they could synthesize their skills and knowledge into service and compassion. Lastly, we want to congratulate the students on the successful completion of this Service-Learning project.
We hope this initiative becomes a symbol of acceptance and empathy instead of social stigma. We also hope that the revamped spaces become a catalyst for change and empowerment for the youth of Bahay Pag-Asa.
