According to the World Health Organization, obesity occurs when excess body fat accumulates to the point that it may negatively affect health. Over time, obesity can increase the risk of serious conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain types of cancer.

Maintaining a healthy weight and managing obesity begins with simple lifestyle choices—eating a balanced diet, staying physically active, getting enough sleep, managing stress, and having regular medical check-ups. Early action and proper guidance are essential for overall health and well-being.

For the Filipino patients, nurses and surgeons.

Another milestone for the PAMOS-PALES-PSGS-Asian Institute of Surgery very first Pre-Congress Workshop on Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery entitled

LSG.PH
Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy held last July 22, 2025 at the Asian Hospital Medical Center.

Thank you very much to IFSO APC President Dr. Asim Shabbir, Dr. Hildegardes Dineros and Dr. Raymund Erese for sharing their knowledge and expertise on the didactic lectures. This was followed by a live surgery on LSG on a Filipino patient by Dr. Asim and Dr. Ike Mendoza viewed by more than 140 surgeons and nurses online and on-site. After which, all on site participants did a full hands-on dry lab on the basics, instrumentation and drills on LSG, laparoscopic towers, staplers and energy devices.

This event would not be possible without the relentless support and enormous help of key surgeons and prime movers, Dr. Michelle Bernadette Lim, Marie A Chan, Eman S. Astudillo, Dr. Tyrone Lalas, Judy Carissa Atazan, Er Can, Dra. Therese Bautista, Dr. Lucas Bersamin, Dr. Edwin De Asis, Dr. Dr. Angel de Larrazabal, our hardworking colleagues, Mam Donna and Mam Annavi, all dedicated surgery residents led by Jafet Ian Reotutar and Janna Villalon , all under the guidance and leadership of our mentors and bosses Dr. Jose Antonio Salud, Don Ejercito, Jeff Domino and the indefatigable Dr. Ike Mendoza.

We would like to thank also the IFSO family for officially endorsing our activity Manuela Mazzarella. This activity was likewise accredited with 5 CPD units.

Lastly, to our hospital staff and industry partners, our utmost appreciation for your unwavering dedication inspite of the inclement weather during that time, we were able to accomplish all of these and more.

Looking forward to a brighter future ahead for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery for the Philippines, for PAMOS or Philippine Association Of Metabolic & Obesity Surgery, PSGS, PALES and AIS.

Maraming maraming salamat po!
