The Kind that stays
By: Elizabeth Ramos
I don’t want a love that crashes in,
Like thunder breaking through the sky
I want the kind that tiptoes close
And learns the language of my sigh.
The kind that doesn’t rush my heart
Like it’s a train about to leave,
But waits beside me on the platform,
Says, “Take your time. I’ll still believe.”
I’ve known the spark that burned too fast,
All bright and breathless, wild and loud
But fire that forgets to warm
Just turns to smoke and leaves a cloud.
So if you fall for me, fall slow,
Like petals drifting from a tree,
Not torn away by reckless wind
But choosing where they want to be.
Hold my hand like it’s a question,
Not a thing you get to keep.
Love me like you understand
Some hearts are oceans, wide and deep.
Be patient with my quiet spells,
With all the walls I learned to raise.
They weren’t built to keep you out,
They were built from older days.
And I will meet you in the middle,
With softer words and steady eyes.
I’ll learn your fears like constellations,
Trace their shapes across the skies.
I want the kind of yearning
That doesn’t ache from being unsure,
But grows because it’s waiting
For something steady, something pure.
Let’s build a love that feels like home,
Not fireworks that fade by dawn,
But candles lit in every window
Long after the night has gone.
And if we fall,
let’s fall like evening,
Soft and certain, deep and true.
With patience in the way we touch
And longing in the way
I look at you.
