𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬—𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐄𝐔 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐥𝐞 congratulates the researchers of the study entitled, 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 (𝑰𝒎)𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔: 𝑨𝒏 𝑨𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒆 𝑺𝒖𝒃𝒄𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔' 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑺𝒆𝒙𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑽𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑨𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔, which was conducted by 𝐌𝐱. 𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨, 𝐌𝐱. 𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚 𝐊𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐱. 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐲𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐳. Their research paper was among those to be awarded, one of this year’s 𝑩𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒔 in English Language Studies.

Their study analyzed scene subculture bands' responses to sexual violence allegations. 𝑆𝑐𝑟𝑢𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑧𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑝𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑐 𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑘𝑒𝑟𝑠, (𝐼𝑚)𝑃𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑆𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑒𝑠, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑆𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝐶𝑎𝑝𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑙, the study was able to uncover how scene subculture bands reflect and proliferate ideologies on sexual violence. Ultimately, this study urges audiences to critically assess how influential figures frame significant social issues.

May this study challenge scholars, institutions, and fans to critically examine how language, stance, and (im)politeness are used to manage social capital and frame responses to sexual violence allegations, and to remain vigilant in holding influential figures accountable for the ideologies their discourse reflects and reinforces.

Their research paper was awarded one of this year’s 𝑩𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒔 in English Language Studies.

Their paper analyzed the verbal responses of Sara Duterte in selected budget utilization hearings. Examining how language is used to construct manipulative discourse in institutional political communication.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬—𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐧 !

May this study compel scholars, real time institutional settings, and Filipinos to critically examine linguistic manipulation in institutional legislative discourse, and to remain vigilant in recognizing how discourse can conceal, construct, or distort truth and accountability in legal discourse.
