Before everything fell apart,
I was genuinely happy.

I didn’t notice it
while it was happening.

It was just normal,

laughing without thinking,

sleeping without overthinking,

loving without fear.

I thought it would stay that way.
I thought this was finally it.

Then one day,
it changed,

slowly at first,
then all at once.

And now,
I look back at that version of me

and wonder
if they knew
how close everything was
to ending.
