Last night, I was informed of a road accident with multiple casualties in Antique involving a passenger bus.

On behalf of the men and women of the Land Transportation Office, I offer my prayers for those who died in this unfortunate incident and extend my deepest condolences to their respective families.

I already instructed the Regional Director of LTO-Western Visayas to conduct investigation into the incident for us to have a clear picture on what really happened and eventually obtain necessary and useful information that will assist us in coming up with more measures to prevent fatal road accidents like this.

The LTO-Western Visayas Regional Director was also directed to determine how the LTO family can assist both to those who died and now in the hospital as a result of this unfortunate incident.

Road accidents like this is the main reason why I instructed all LTO Regional Directors when I assumed my position in July to make the road worthiness inspection of vehicles and check on the physical and mental condition of drivers in bus terminals as regular as possible.

Ito rin ang dahilan kung bakit agresibo nating ipinapatupad ang “No Registration, No Travel” policy sa pamamagitan ng law enforcement operations at mga programa upang mahikayat ang mga may-ari na muling ipa-rehistro ang kanilang mga sasakyan, lalong-lalo na ang mga pampublikong sasakyan.

Ang pagpaparehistro ng sasakyan ay isang paraan ng ating pamahalaan upang matiyak ang road worthiness ng mga sasakyan para sa kaligtasan ng lahat.

Following this fatal road accident in Antique, I also instructed all LTO Regional Directors and heads of District Offices to further intensify the conduct of road worthiness inspection and the “No Registration, No Travel” policy.

If it also requires that the road worthiness inspection of public utility vehicles, especially passenger buses, is done on a weekly basis, so be it. What is important is to ensure the safety of passengers and other road users, especially that Christmas season, when we expect more travels of our kababayan, is here.

On the part of the LTO Central Office, we will coordinate with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board under the guidance of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista and reach out to companies and operators of passenger buses to come up with additional road safety measures.

Alinsunod sa rekomendasyon ng IATF, ang mga opisina ng LTO ay muling makakapaglingkod sa mga kliyenteng 17-21 taong gulang at 60-65 taong gulang.
Ang mga Student Permit, Driver's License, at Conductor's License ng mga nabanggit na nag-expire sa restriction period ay extended ang validity hanggang 31 December 2020.
