IN PHOTOS | Progressive groups led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) - Southern Mindanao Region (SMR) held a rally earlier today ahead of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, which opened at 2 p.m.
The groups called out the Vice President’s alleged corruption, mishandling of public funds, and neglect of duty, urging the public to stay vigilant as the proceedings unfold. They stressed that the trial marks a crucial step toward accountability.
The Senate impeachment court will hear four Articles of Impeachment against Duterte: misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds (Article I), unexplained wealth and false SALNs (Article II), bribery and procurement irregularities at DepEd (Article III), and an alleged assassination plot and grave threats against President Marcos, First Lady Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Romualdez (Article IV).

LOOK | The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) - Davao has criticized Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged neglect of duty during her stint as Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd). The group pointed to persistent problems plaguing the education sector — including low teacher wages, insufficient classrooms and learning equipment, and the department’s failure to keep pace with the country’s growing education demands.
ACT-Davao said these issues highlight the urgent need for accountability, calling on Duterte to face the impeachment case head-on rather than avoid scrutiny.
They urged the Senate impeachment court to proceed without delay so Duterte can formally answer the evidence against her. The impeachment trial officially opened today, July 6, 2026, with the Senate convening as an impeachment court at 2 p.m.
