𝐃𝐍𝐒𝐂 F𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 j𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

As part of its continuous advocacy for food safety, the Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) Food Technology Program participated in the 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 f𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 F𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐚f𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨f 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 on November 6, 2025.

Represented by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐋𝐞𝐢z𝐞𝐥 𝐓. 𝐄𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚, the program followed up on the progress of crafting and establishing the local food safety ordinance, sharing insights drawn from years of research and extension initiatives focused on improving food safety practices in the community.

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻 graced the committee hearing and showed his full support for the proposed Food Safety Ordinance. This marks an important step toward protecting public health and empowering food vendors through clear, consistent local policies.

F𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐚f𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐨f 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐍𝐒𝐂 F𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, built on years of dedicated studies and research that aim to promote safer food systems and strengthen public health governance.

This engagement underscores DNSC’s commitment to empowering communities, supporting evidence-based policy development, and fostering innovation and good governance—all in pursuit of sustainable and healthier communities.

The Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) participated in the 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 (𝐑𝐑𝐃𝐈𝐂 𝐗𝐈) held last November 11, 2025, at the Innovation and Technology Resource Center (ITRC), University of the Immaculate Conception Main Campus, Davao City.

Representing the Food Technology Program, 𝐑𝐢𝐚 𝐉𝐚𝐲𝐧𝐞 𝐀. 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐬, BSFT Faculty, presented her policy brief titled “𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞. The study highlights years of research (2016–2025) on the enhancement of food safety practices and emphasizes the importance of implementing a local food safety ordinance anchored on RA 10611.

The event was also attended by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐑𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐚𝐨, DNSC Research and Development Director, who provided strong support for the Food Technology Program’s advocacy for food safety.

Food safety has long been a core advocacy of the DNSC Food Technology Program, with numerous studies conducted over the years to strengthen public awareness, industry compliance, and evidence-based policy recommendations.

Through initiatives like this, DNSC continues to contribute to safer, healthier communities while advancing research-driven solutions in the food sector.
