Healthy Sweets Mindanao Corporation, is a family-owned company that specializes in producing coconut sugar which is known as a healthy and natural sweetener. The business started in 2009 in a three-hectare agricultural lot which the family acquired in 2006. The operation of the business was conceived as an alternative to the fluctuating price of copra and to respond to the challenge of making small farming a profitable venture. Since the land is mostly planted with coconut trees, the production of coconut sugar was seen as the most viable alternative because of its health benefits and income potentials.

In less than two years of producing organic coconut sugar, the company was able to increase farm production and the income also increased two-fold. The company started out with a poorly maintained coconut plantation which, from an agricultural standpoint, was unproductive. Using sustainable and organic farming methods, the farm was rehabilitated and reached optimum production capacities in two years. However, due to the fluctuating prices of copra, coconut sugar became a viable option in generating substantial income for the company.

Through the production of coconut sugar Healthy Sweets has contributed in increasing the income of the coconut farmers in the rural communities of Panabo City. It created employment for women and men who, because of their educational attainment hindered them from getting employed outside of the community. With their income, the once unemployed residents could now provide a better quality of life for their family and support the education of their children.
