"Alayon: Alay sa Kinabukasan ng Katutubo" is a community-based project led by DUYOG, which provides a facilitative approach to walk alongside the community rather than impose external solutions. The project facilitates two community-identified interventions: the distribution of sewing machine for the production and sale of traditional attire as a sustainable and culturally appropriate livelihood, and the distribution of basic school supplies including bags, notebooks, and pencils to ensure the children have the necessary materials before the start of classes. These interventions are specifically aimed at supporting immediate material needs while building Indigenous people cultural pride, self-confidence, and sense of agency. By contributing directly to SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The project "Alayon" represents a meaningful step toward equitable education,cultural empowerment, and a resilient, self-determined Indigenous future; aligned with both the 2030 Agenda and the national priorities of the Philippines.

Before anything else, we pay respect to those who lead and protect the community.

DUYOG has successfully completed the first phase: Community Entry and Coordination. Beginning with a courtesy call to community leader and the Barangay Captain. We introduced our project, shared our purpose, and most importantly, secured their permission and consent to proceed.

Bringing only but an open mind, DUYOG has successfully completed the second and third phases: Rapid Community Assessment and Problem Identification & Planning. We conducted observations, interviews, and community discussions. We heard the community's collective narratives and needs, as well as their lived experiences.

No imposing. No assuming. Just genuine accompaniment.

And with this being said, the community's voice now becomes the foundation of every step we take next.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗗𝗔𝗬 | 𝗗𝗨𝗡𝗢𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗔 𝗟𝗜𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚

On December 13, 2025, the advocacy project “Dunong sa Liwanag: Empowering Indigenous Children Through Light and Learning” was successfully implemented at Purok 2-A, Barangay Tubod, Carmen. The program commenced with an opening prayer, seeking guidance and blessings as the team carried out a mission rooted in service and compassion. This was followed by a fun energizer led by the DUYOG Team, which fostered a positive atmosphere with laughter, excitement, and bright smiles from the children including their parents.

The program formally proceeded with opening remarks from Ms. Aleya Zyra Obeda, the Project Instructor, followed by a heartfelt message from one of the Indigenous People (IP) representative. She expressed her sincere gratitude, stating, “ 𝘋𝘢𝘬𝘰 𝘬𝘢𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘢𝘬𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘢 𝘫𝘶𝘺 𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘮𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘪. Her words resonated with everyone present which reminded the team why the advocacy truly mattered.

Throughout the program, the children’s enthusiasm and happiness were evident, as their laughter echoed throughout the place, and the happiness on their faces was something no words could fully measure. Parents also showed appreciation as they witnessed their children engaged in different activities. This was followed by the distribution of solar lights and school supplies, modest yet powerful tools that symbolized hope, support, and a brighter path for learning.

The program concluded with a heartfelt closing remarks by Mr. Aldrin Sugbo, President of DUYOG, and followed by a prayer and picture-taking with the DUYOG Team, the Indigenous children, and their parents. Everyone departed the community not just with photos and memories, but with hearts full of gratitude, fulfillment, and renewed purpose, affirming that even small acts of service can create a meaningful impact by bringing light, learning, and hope to the community.
