What would you do in this scenario? 👉 Cayman’s been assigned “Missing right arm, regulator recovery”. He’s now trying to problem solve the scenario before the in-water training, along with Ana & Cynthia.
IDC Specialty | Adaptive Teaching Techniques 🎉 This might just be our favourite to teach. Not only is it fun, but it’s impactful, inclusive, and helps EVERYONE to dive - because we truly believe everyone should ❤️
Next IDC on 29 July 2026 - couple spots left

Why is this PADI Instructor diving with his arms?
Actually, this is correct for this particular course 👇
Welcome to becoming a PADI Specialty Instructor — today’s course is Adaptive Techniques.
Throughout the course, candidates are given different scenarios and task limitations to help them better understand how to support divers with varying abilities underwater. The goal is to encourage problem-solving, communication, adaptability, and teamwork during the dive experience.
This course is extremely close to our hearts at Sierra Madre Divers, and it’s one of our favourites to teach.
Some of the scenarios we worked through were:
👉 Limited leg mobility | Compass Navigation
👉 Reduced lower body mobility | R + R BCD
👉 Single-arm task management | Regulator Recovery
Just to give you an idea.
We truly believe diving should be accessible to EVERYONE, and being able to train Instructors in adaptive techniques and underwater problem solving makes the world feel like a much better place.

Tecrec on the Wreck 😅 Sometimes we head down to the wreck in Alona, and watch 2-3 different dive groups descend, look at the wreck and then leave. As tec divers, we have the luxury of time at depth - and that’s something really special.
As you know, time is everything underwater. It can be the 2 minutes extra that the whaleshark cruised past, or the eagle ray... it’s just incredible. Bohol is really an incredible place to learn tec diving, theres SO MUCH HERE it’s crazy.
Feel free to walk into Sierra Madre Divers on Alona anytime you like to grab a beer and chat about what tec dive training could look like for you. It’s one of our favourite things to teach for sure.
