The fight delivered everything fans hoped for. Despite entering as a 3-to-1 favorite, Leonard found himself in trouble early as Hearns took control and dropped him in the 3rd round. Leonard got back up and fought on, turning the fight into another unforgettable war. Both men traded heavy shots throughout the night, refusing to give an inch.

Hearns put Leonard down again in the 11th, but Leonard's toughness showed once more as he battled back. The 12th and final round was a fitting finish to a classic, with both fighters leaving everything they had in the ring. When the final bell sounded, the crowd rose in appreciation of what they had just witnessed.
