VISION SCREENING ACTIVITY FOR SELECTED GRADE 8 AND GRADE 9 STUDENTS
On January 7, 2026, Vicenta S. David National High School conducted a vision screening activity among selected Grade 8 and Grade 9 students as part of its continuous health and wellness initiatives. The activity aimed to assess the visual acuity of learners, identify possible vision problems at an early stage, and help ensure that students are physically fit to actively engage in their academic tasks and school activities. This initiative supports the school’s commitment to preventive healthcare and student welfare.
The vision screening was facilitated by Nurse Kris Pauline Caballes, Nurse II, and Mrs. Joanna Mae D. Dela Cruz, Clinic Teacher, who ensured the orderly and proper conduct of the activity. They provided clear instructions to the students, observed appropriate health and safety protocols, and carefully documented the results of the screening. Students were guided throughout the process to ensure accuracy and comfort during the assessment.
Through this activity, the school strengthened its efforts in promoting early detection of vision-related concerns and timely intervention for learners who may require further evaluation or assistance. The vision screening also contributed to raising students’ awareness of the importance of eye health in achieving better academic performance and overall well-being, reinforcing the school’s role in creating a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment.

HANDWASHING ACTIVITY STRENGTHENS HYGIENE AWARENESS AT VICENTA
On January 5, 2026, the school organized a handwashing activity for its students as part of a larger initiative to promote proper hygiene and sanitation. The event highlighted the critical importance of regular handwashing as a simple yet highly effective method for preventing the spread of diseases. Teachers and health coordinators worked together to demonstrate the correct handwashing techniques, ensuring that students understood how to clean their hands thoroughly and consistently.
To reinforce the lessons, the school distributed educational materials, including posters and pamphlets, across the campus. These resources served as constant reminders of the importance of good hygiene practices. The initiative extended beyond the school grounds, as it encouraged students to bring these habits home and practice them within their families and communities. The goal was to foster lasting behavioral change in students' daily routines.
Handwashing is widely recognized as a key preventive measure against foodborne illnesses and various infections caused by poor hygiene. By instilling the practice of regular handwashing at an early age, the school hopes to reduce the risk of illnesses within the student population and beyond. The event underscored how small, consistent actions can have a significant impact on health and well-being.
This handwashing drive is a crucial part of the school’s broader commitment to fostering a culture of health and hygiene among its learners. Through continued education and engagement in hygiene-related activities, Santa Cruz Integrated National High School - Gatid Extension aims to safeguard the health of its students, their families, and the wider community.

On October 8, 2025, Nurse Kris Pauline M. Caballes administered a Rapid HEEADSSS Assessment to selected and consented Grade 8 and Grade 9 students of Vicenta S. David National High School as part of the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OKD) – School Mental Health Program. By facilitating the assessment, the school highlighted its proactive approach to raising mental health awareness and providing timely support services for its students.
This initiative further reflects the Department of Education’s dedication to strengthening the School Mental Health Program by ensuring that learners’ mental and emotional well-being are given equal priority alongside their physical health and academic development.
