SWIFT PNP ACTION LEADS TO SAFE RECOVERY OF EXPLOSIVE REMNANTS IN PASAY AIRPORT VICINITY

The Philippine National Police, through its Aviation Security Group Explosives Ordnance Disposal and K9 Unit, promptly responded to a report of suspected Explosive Remnants of War discovered at taxiway within the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Complex in Pasay City on April 26, 2026.

In line with the PNP Focused Agenda under Enhanced Managing Police Operations, EOD/K9 personnel were immediately deployed in coordination with airport security to secure the area and ensure public safety. The operation is part of ongoing efforts under the leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure nationwide.

Upon thorough assessment, EOD personnel safely recovered six (6) general-purpose bombs weighing 50 pounds each, all confirmed to be inert and heavily corroded. Follow-up clearing operations in the surrounding vicinity led to the recovery of additional items consisting of four (4) more 50-pound bombs and eighteen (18) 25-pound bombs, all likewise assessed as inert and no longer posing active explosive danger.

All recovered materials were properly secured and transported to the AVSECU Headquarters for documentation and safekeeping. The entire operation concluded at approximately 2:50 PM without any untoward incident.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., commended the quick action of the responding personnel, saying, “We acted immediately because safety cannot wait. We assure the public that every report of possible threat is taken seriously and addressed with urgency and care.”

He added that the PNP remains steadfast in its mandate to safeguard communities and vital installations.

The PNP assured the public of sustained security operations and proactive measures to prevent any risk to safety, in support of its mandate under Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
