We walk among heroes. Not just the ones with blue checks or thousands of followers, but those whose compassion doesn’t need an audience, until people start talking about it.

Meet Jayboy Magdadaro, the 15-year-old from Fatima, Barangay Jubay, in the municipality of Liloan, Cebu, who saved over 50 lives during the heavy floods in Jubay.

Jayboy is no stranger to helping others. Even before Typhoon Tino hit, he had been volunteering with the Sangguniang Kabataan, joining initiatives and activities that supported his community — a clear reflection of his dedication to the welfare of his neighbors.

When Typhoon Tino arrived, relentless rain and floodwaters swallowed homes and streets across Jubay. Initially, Jayboy evacuated to Sitio San Roque, expecting his hometown of Fatima to be hit hardest. But destiny had other plans, and Jubay bore the brunt of the disaster.

Without hesitation, he grabbed a salbabida (lifebuoy) and a small bangka (boat). From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., he rescued residents as children, pregnant women, and the elderly clung to him through dangerous floodwaters. Along the way, he even encountered lifeless bodies drifting in the currents, a chilling reminder of the tragedy around him.

Afterward, some tried to offer him money in gratitude. Jayboy refused. He didn’t do it for reward. He did it because it was the right thing to do.

At just 15, Jayboy showed us what true heroism looks like. It is bravery without hesitation. It is kindness without condition. It is service without expectation.

Hats off, Jayboy! You’ve done what many adults wouldn’t dare. The people of Jubay and the Philippines will remember your courage. 💛
