TALISAY CITY, Cebu—Talisay City College (TCC), in partnership with the Talisay City Local Government Unit (LGU), commemorated the 128th Philippine Independence Day today, June 12, 2026, at the TCC Bungtod ni Rizal, in front of the Admin Building, through wreath-laying rites, patriotic tributes, and messages from local leaders that underscored the importance of active citizenship and nation-building.
The celebration, themed “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan,” was attended by representatives from the Talisay City Local Government Unit (LGU), TCC administrators, faculty members, staff, and students, particularly those from the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies (BSED Social Studies) and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (BA PolSci) programs.
The program opened with an Invocation of Unity, followed by an opening address from TCC Political Science Society Governor Grace D. Sardido.
Uniformed personnel and ROTC cadets led the Honoring March before participants proceeded to the Pagpupugay sa Watawat conducted by Atty. John Jigo Dacua of Talisay Sugbo Masonic Lodge 422. A flag-raising ceremony and wreath-laying and flower-offering rites followed in honor of Filipino heroes who fought for the country's freedom.
During the inspirational message segment, Worshipful Master Carlos Pono Cavada II of Talisay Sugbo Masonic Lodge 422 emphasized the significance of patriotism and service to the community. Vice Mayor Richard “Choy” Aznar delivered the message on behalf of Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr., who was unable to attend due to a prior official engagement. Vice Mayor Aznar encouraged students to uphold the values of responsible citizenship and contribute to nation-building.
The TCC Chorale presented a tribute performance, while SSC President Leny Jane Sabordo delivered a call for action urging students to take part in community and national development. The celebration concluded with a finale tribute from the Balud Dance Company.
This year's observance served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Filipino heroes and the continuing responsibility of citizens to safeguard the country's freedom and democratic ideals.
“Gihalaran sa dugo ug sakripisyo sa kabayanihan ang kagawasan nga atong natagamtam karon; ikaw, unsa ang andam mong iatag sa pagpanalipod niini?”
This question echoed throughout the celebration, challenging every participant to reflect on their role in safeguarding the freedom won through generations of sacrifice.
