"Dear mama in the throes of fourth trimester, I see you.

The trenches feel deep and dark. And oftentimes like you’ll never come up for air from them.

But then you do, even if it’s just for little glimpses here and there. You eventually do.

It’s beauty and bliss and ugly and dark, all wrapped into one exhausted and overwhelmed package. The highs are high and the lows are low. You lose yourself and a little (or a lot) of your sanity. Lack of sleep makes you crazy and mad. Giving your entire existence—body, mind, spirit—to a tiny little being that you still don’t know is the fullest time job.

But what I do know is this: that tiny little being and you start to get to know each other and bond. Then you catch his first smile. And hear his babbles. And before you know it, you realize life would be incomplete without him in it.

You’re not alone in those trenches, mama. Even though it certainly feels like it. I was there too. But it gets better. It will get better. Keep doing what you’re doing. Keep loving like you’re loving. And know that you’re doing a really good job."
