One of the questions we get asked often is the types of sustainably farmed hard wood that SustainablyMade offers.
Currently, we produce authentic kiln-dried Big-Leaf Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla), Teak (Tectona grandis), and Gmelina (Gmelina arborea) wood.

The main difference among these three is their color and grain. Gmelina is pale yellow to cream-coloured. Big-Leaf Mahogany’s shade ranges from pinkish brown to a darker reddish brown. Teak has a more golden or medium brown color.
Over time, natural wood’s color darkens & becomes richer. 🌳

The rainy season has brought about not just cold weather but also an abundance of nutrition for tropical trees.
Taking advantage of the nutritional abundance, trees begin the new year in full bloom just in time to produce fruits & seeds for the coming summer months.
These fruits & seeds are then consumed by animals (sometimes humans) triggering their germination stages to become new trees just in time for the coming rainy season.
