2017 Fuso Fighter 4D37 engine. Made for the Philippine market. Not japan surplus. Not converted

Issues: Low power, engine knock and thick black smoke

Seen and messed about by other mechanics. Casa people even got involved but no luck.

We took the truck in and carried out compression test. Found cylinders 1,2,3 at 410 psi and cylinder 4 at 180 psi. Took the head off and found piston no 4 has damaged crown. We also found the valves were mixed up by the previous mechanic. Cyl 1 had 3 intake and 1 exhaust valve. Cyl 2 had 3 exhaust and 1 intake valves cyl 4 got the intake fitted on the exhaust port and vise versa. What a mess! To make matters worse, no piston is available in the country as the engine is still new. Had the piston refurbished by the machine shop people.

The engine now runs perfect after the repair.
