🌿🕊️👩‍🌾🤝🌍 Women Leading Peace. Communities Advancing Environmental Justice.
On 03 July 2026, Hashoo Foundation, with the support of UNDP Pakistan DHL, successfully concluded the first five-day training under the "Empowering Women for Peace and Environmental Justice in Swat" project.
The training brought together 20 male participants as Environmental Human Rights Defenders (EHRDs) and Insider Mediators, equipping them with practical skills in environmental justice, insider mediation, grievance referral mechanisms, and community-led Social Action Projects (SAPs). Participants strengthened their capacity to address environmental disputes peacefully, promote climate resilience, and build stronger collaboration between communities and government institutions.
Looking ahead, the next phase will train 20 women, empowering them to lead women-driven Social Action Projects and play a greater role in environmental governance, community dialogue, and peacebuilding across Swat.
Participants also identified priority Social Action Projects focusing on solid waste management, water conservation, flood preparedness, reforestation, climate-resilient tourism, and environmental awareness, while laying the foundation for an Insider Mediators Network to strengthen collaboration with relevant government institutions.
Through this initiative, the project is advancing:
✅ Women's leadership in environmental governance
✅ Stronger community resilience to climate challenges
✅ Inclusive environmental governance through dialogue, mediation, and accessible grievance mechanisms
Together, these efforts are helping build a future where women lead, communities collaborate, and environmental justice becomes a pathway to sustainable peace and climate resilience in Swat.
