What is surd?In mathematics, a surd is an expression that includes a root, such as a square root, cube root, or nth root, where the radicand (the number inside the root) is not a perfect power of the root. In other words, it's an irrational number that cannot be simplified further.

Examples of surds include:

- √2 (square root of 2)
- √3 (square root of 3)
- ³√5 (cube root of 5)
- ⁴√7 (fourth root of 7)

Surds are used to represent numbers that cannot be expressed as finite decimals or fractions. They play an important role in various mathematical operations, such as algebra, geometry, and calculus.
