Birth Defects Foundation

Women who are born without a uterus (Uterus) or whose uterus is extremely small can now, with the help of modern medical science, undergo Uterus Transplantation using a donor uterus. This gives them hope to fulfill their dream of family life and motherhood in the future.

This important matter was presented before the Islamic Ideology Council of Pakistan by the Birth Defects Foundation on 14 June 2025, seeking guidance from an Islamic perspective. The Foundation had received many young girls suffering from congenital absence of the uterus or severely underdeveloped uterus, making it impossible for them to build a family life naturally.

Alhamdulillah, in the 44th meeting of the Islamic Ideology Council held on 7 May 2026, it was decided that:

“Uterus Transplantation is permissible in Islam, provided that all Islamic, ethical, and medical conditions are fulfilled.”

At present, this treatment is being performed in only a few countries including America, Sweden, Turkey, Brazil, India, and the UK. However, it remains an extremely expensive procedure.

Pakistan also has countless such cases, and the Birth Defects Foundation is receiving patients who are in desperate need of this treatment and support.

The dream of the Birth Defects Foundation is to establish a modern hospital in Pakistan where, under one roof, treatment for the following can be provided:

On Saturday, April 25, at 7:00 PM (Pakistan Standard Time), a significant quarterly OPD session was successfully conducted at the Head Office of Birth Defect Foundation, located at 96 Khyber Block, Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore, Pakistan. During this session, children with Disorders of S*x Development (DSD), especially those diagnosed with CAH (46XX), received comprehensive medical evaluation and care.
During the session:
- Detailed clinical assessments of children with hormonal imbalances were carried out
- Medication dosages, including Hydrocortisone and Fludrocortisone, were carefully reviewed and adjusted according to the latest medical guidelines
- Parents were provided with thorough counseling and guidance regarding the condition, treatment plans, and daily care of their children
It is highly commendable that:
- All medical services are being provided 100% free of cost
- Essential medications are also distributed free of charge, without any discrimination
- These services are consistently offered on a quarterly basis, ensuring continuity of care
These efforts are not only improving the quality of life of affected children but are also playing a vital role in effectively managing their hormonal conditions. Furthermore, this initiative brings immense relief and reassurance to their families, contributing to better health outcomes, proper growth, and a more secure future for these children.
