Hand-Knotted Vintage, Kurdish/Yezidi Carpet. £500.00

The beauty of this Kurdish design is enriched by the vegetable-dyes used to create high-chroma blues, greens, as well as terracotta,burnt orange and red hues, made richer still by the lustrous 100% handspun wool used. Whilst the main area of rug is a heavy deep pile ; the deep blue, central medallion`s carpet pile is trimmed almost to the closeness of a classic Persian rug.

Northern Iraqi/ Kurdistan Yezidi rugs may incorporate the large geometrical figures in the central field often seen in the Karabagh style, while moving south, toward Kermanshah, the rugs may feature an arboreal design with flowering shrubs arranged in rows - more typical of the Senna style. This rug has features of both styles.

I bought this rug from a home in Chelsea, London; where it had been in their study for 30 years.
