🗺 Map stitching ️🗺

Our main mission – image analysis – requires “stitching” our aerial imagery into a map. The ORB algorithm finds the pictures’ keypoints (red circles) and the SIFT algorithm creates their descriptors, which tell about their surroundings. In order to find relative positioning of two consecutive images, keypoints with similar descriptors are matched – it is assumed they should overlap. Linear regression on complex numbers allows us to find the suitable transformation matrix. The whole process is completely automatic.

The effects from our test flight can be seen in the 2nd picture 🧐

As the end of the competition is coming, we decided that we could reveal some of the effects of our work 😳😳😳

🪂 Recovery system 🪂

Our choice – ram-air parachute – ensures stable, slow descent. The two-layer structure gives it the shape of an aircraft wing, which provides a steady direction and reduces the speed. This allows us to take stable photos necessary in our mission.

Możemy więc uchylić już rąbka tajemnicy odnośnie tego, nad czym pracujemy 😳

Nasz CanSat, tj. opadająca na spadochronie puszka na bieżąco zanalizuje obraz z aparatu i na jego podstawie wygeneruje mapę terenu pod jej torem lotu 🗺️
Docelowo wykorzysta te dane do wyboru bezpiecznego miejsca lądowania 🚀
