Gig Economy Statistics
Did you know that the number of freelancers in the United States is projected to rise by almost 20 million between now and 2028? That's more than the entire population of Chile, Syria, or the Netherlands! 😮
Not only that, around 40% of executives worldwide expect freelancers to account for an increased share of their organization's workforce over the next few years. 📊
Trouble is, calculating pay for gig workers is extremely difficult and time consuming. How will employers handle this when the number of freelancers is growing so fast? How can companies adjust and even potentially save money while running payroll for this growing model of work? 🤔

It's time for another installment of "Life at Symmetrical!" This week, the spotlight is on our resident bookworm and extremely capable Talent Acquisition Partner, Justyna Hoppe! Let's hear from her in her own words:
"I was inspired to read by my dad, who throughout my whole life seemed to be living two lives - one with us and one always with his book! 😊 He always seemed to be in the middle of some big adventure, as he's a huge fan of historical fantasy.
The other important reading authority figure was my first English teacher, Mr. Robert Shaw. He entered my life when I moved to the UK at age 11. I wanted to learn English quickly, so he helped me by recommending LOTR, "A Taste of Honey", "Stone Cold", and some beautiful poetry...and some Shakespeare of course! 📚
And the reading story just followed on. I kept asking both my English and psychology teachers for some recommendations, and became a loyal customer of Weatherstones, the big book chain in the UK. I also loved buying some used classics from Oxfam (charity shop) and visiting some creepy, very old libraries in Yorkshire. 📜
As I grew and my taste in books started forming, I realized that I just love the narrative of the 20th century writers and the way they capture life and human complexity. It seems to be closest to my heart. ❤️
The deeper psychologically a book is, the better. I even believe that the literature more accurately depicts the human nature than some of the psychological books I've read. It's a fantastic combination, to compliment psychological diagnosis with the depth gained from literature. 🔖
My reading habits involve being outside, in some nice coffee shop, on a bench in my favorite parks during nice weather, or somewhere on a meadow or beach. I can't focus when reading at home - too many distractions! And of course I love physical books. I only listen to audiobooks that aid me professionally or are just for self-development, and this is always while I'm walking. 📖
My favorite authors are Joseph Conrad, Tennessee Williams, John Steinbeck, Stefan Żeromski, William Wharton, William Shakespeare, Robert Frost, William Blake, William Golding (so many Williams!), Sylvia Plath, Margaret Atwood, Garcia Marquez, J. R.R. Tolkien, and many, many more. 😊
My most loved books are The Lord of the Rings, Hamlet, Heart of Darkness, The Winter of our Discontent, A Hundred Years of Solitude, and Doctor Frankenstein. (That last one is a love-hate feeling, as I cried so much while reading it!)" 😭
Thanks for all the recommendations, Justyna - we're sure our readers will appreciate them! 👍
