Pastele, In Puerto Rico, pasteles are a cherished culinary recipe. They consists of grated green banana, green plantain,which is the outside, it has a filling in the center, It is seasoned with liquid from the meat. The meat is prepared as a stew made from pork , olives, pimentos, seasoned with sofrito, recaito, tomato sauce, adobo and annatto oil. You boil them to cook them once they are cooked then you cut the string and open the paper and banana leaf and eat the insides. the crecent shaped item is a Pastelillos they are meat filled pastries that are a popular in Puerto Rico They are also called Empanadas although Pastilillos in Puerto Rico usually have a thinner and crisper shell than an Empanda. the beef is seasoned pretty much the same as the pastelles. These you fry in oil till they are golden brown and they will expand in shape once cooked. The last item is a Alcapurria, it is made from a doughy mixture of mashed green bananas. The dough surrounds a center of seasoned meat, you deep fry it for several minutes or till a nice golden to dark brown.
