Police bust Ends With Suspect Shot by Officer in San Juan

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — A police investigation in the El Hoyo sector of Caimito resulted in a suspect being shot and wounded by an officer on Friday, according to the Puerto Rico Police Bureau.

According to the preliminary police report provided to Puerto Rico English News, the incident occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. on June 12 while agents assigned to the San Juan Intelligence Division were conducting a surveillance operation near a basketball court in the area.

Authorities said officers observed a man in the vicinity, and when one of the agents approached him, the suspect allegedly fled while pointing a firearm at the officer.

In response, the officer, whose identity was not released, drew his service weapon and returned fire, striking the suspect.

The man was arrested at the scene and transported to the Río Piedras Medical Center in San Juan for treatment. Police described his condition as stable.

During the intervention, authorities seized a modified G***k 9mm pistol allegedly capable of firing in automatic mode, one magazine with a capacity of 17 rounds, 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 16 plastic bags containing co***ne, 34 pink-capped plastic containers containing crack co***ne, 30 white-capped plastic containers containing ma*****na, 18 ma*****na ci******es wrapped in brown paper, and five white round pills.

Agents from the San Juan Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC), together with personnel from the Investigation Division of the Special Investigations Bureau (NIE), are continuing the investigation.

No officers were reported injured during the incident.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Residents and visitors alike will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate Puerto Rico's rich culture, music, food, and traditions this summer as several popular festivals return across the island.

The festival season kicks off June 12-14 with the Festival del Jíbaro Comerieño at Plaza de la Trova in , celebrating Puerto Rico's jíbaro heritage through music, food, and cultural activities.

On June 13 and 14, the town of will host the Festival del Guineo at Plaza de los Patriotas, honoring one of the island's most beloved agricultural products—the banana.

One of Puerto Rico's most anticipated annual events, the Festival de las Flores, will take place from June 26 through July 5 in , featuring stunning flower displays, live entertainment, artisan vendors, and family-friendly attractions.

From July 1-5, visitors can enjoy the Festival El Jobo in , a celebration known for its music, local cuisine, and community spirit.

Chocolate lovers will want to visit on July 4 and 5 for the Festival Aguada Sabe a Cacao, which highlights Puerto Rico's growing cacao industry and offers tastings, cultural performances, and educational exhibits.

The summer festival lineup concludes July 24-26 with the Festival del Güiro y el Flamboyán in , celebrating Puerto Rican music, folklore, and the iconic flamboyán tree.

With festivals showcasing the island's traditions, agriculture, gastronomy, and music, Puerto Rico offers a vibrant calendar of events for residents and tourists looking to make the most of Summer 2026.
