🌋 Lava Flow 🌋

This abstract mosaic pulls inspiration from the movement of lava, molten rock, expelled from beneath the earth’s surface. A textural and colorful delight composed of 100% glass in three forms: Rainbow obsidian, organic volcanic glass. Smalti, man-made vitreous glass for application in mosaics. And sea glass, a favorite material of mine, as ocean-tumbled deep olive-black “pebbles” of former ancient ale and spirit bottles.

Lava is a fantastic subject matter as a natural Earth substance capable of both destruction and creation. It is striking to witness with its captivating glowing fire color palette and the rich textural cooling process often leaving behind gorgeous intricately patterned igneous, sometimes metallic and iridescent, rock formations.
