I am writing down these lines while hearing several blasts from ballistic missiles sent by Iran and just few minutes ago someone knocked at our door and asked for food. I didn’t have anything prepared to give and felt bad sending the person away. But that’s when I thought that we should prepare several food packages that would contain items that goes well with bread and can be easily consumed without a need of cooking.
At this moment situation in the country is very unstable to say the least, and if before we expected that things will improve in this spring season then we can surely say now it will take another season to overcome the impact of the current conflict.
Cooking gas is getting scarce in Bethlehem; this morning people went to gas stations to fill up the tanks and the fuel is running out. This might pass after a while, but the fact that many are without daily income remains.
The idea of food pack is to reflect Jesus words in Matthew 6:11- “Give us today our daily bread”- a simple humanitarian food package with items that can be consumed with bread and including a New Testament- the true daily bread.
It is often that we meet people on the streets asking for food and as well directly contacting us for help. Such a package would include: canned hoummos, canned sausage, jam, chocolate spread, shelf-stable cheese, powdered milk, canned tuna fish, tea, crackers, zatar and olive oil. The estimated costs for one package are about 140 ILS (38 euro, 45 USD).

We are reviving the initiative of helping the local community in Bethlehem. Since October 7, 2023 many people in Bethlehem have lost their jobs and at this moment there are no quick solutions. Here we don’t have social support from the government, much help depends on local communities or individuals gathering funds from abroad and delivering them according to the needs. This is a work of trust and love.
This platform is not linked to any political or religious agenda, it is all inspired by Jesus words: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Mt.7:12
