Beautiful Habiba Al-Askari is one of 6,000 amputation cases in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the genocide. Imagine that 4,000 of this total are children. You can also imagine that Gaza represents the highest rate of child amputees relative to its population, making it the largest concentration of child amputees in the world 💔

Today marks the 78th anniversary of the first Palestinian Nakba, in which hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forcibly removed from their homeland.

Some 700,000 Palestinians, a majority of the pre-war population, fled or were driven from their homes before and during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war that followed the establishment of "Israel".

One of the displaced people living in tents told me:
“I’m not afraid of the war returning… I’m afraid for the children Gaza still has left.”

A sentence that captures the depth of fear people here are living with where the fear is no longer only for survival, but for what remains of childhood, of the little faces exhausted by war, displacement, hunger, and terror.

A city once full of life, homes, memories, and families now stands reduced to rubble. Behind every destroyed building is a story interrupted, a childhood changed, and people forced to survive the unimaginable. The world may move on quickly, but the pain of Gaza remains painfully real. 🕊️
