🇵🇹 Neste dia em 1487, foi impresso o primeiro livro em Portugal: o Pentateuco, escrito em hebraico. Esta obra, impressa em Faro por Samuel Gacon, é um marco histórico na cultura e no património português — e é precisamente por isso que se comemora neste dia o Dia do Livro Português.
O Pentateuco reúne os cinco primeiros livros da Bíblia hebraica — Beresh*t (Génesis), Shemot (Êxodo), Vayikrá (Levítico), Bamidbar (Números) e Devarim (Deuteronómio). Estes textos são fundamentais para o judaísmo, sendo designados como a Torá, a base da lei e da identidade judaica. Para os cristãos, estes mesmos textos integram o Antigo Testamento e são vistos como parte essencial da narrativa bíblica que antecipa o Novo Testamento.
A impressão do Pentateuco em hebraico, em território português, é um testemunho valioso da presença e do legado judaico no país.

🇬🇧 On this day in 1487, the first book was printed in Portugal: the Pentateuch, written in Hebrew. This work, printed in Faro by Samuel Gacon, is a historic milestone in Portuguese culture and heritage — and it is precisely for this reason that Portuguese Book Day is celebrated on this date.
The Pentateuch comprises the first five books of the Hebrew Bible — Beresh*t (Genesis), Shemot (Exodus), Vayikrá (Leviticus), Bamidbar (Numbers), and Devarim (Deuteronomy).
