We’re hiring again in Cambridge Geography, this time for a Lab and Field Technician (permanent post – details below) to complete the Geography Science Laboratories team. The main areas of research and teaching that the team support are: palaeoecology (pollen, charcoal), sediment core work, tephrochronology, dendrochronology, biogeography (plant/tree/carbon surveys, UAV work). We know that’s a broad portfolio, but there would be lots of on-the-job training and many areas are already well supported by the existing technical staff. Job opportunity: Laboratory and Field Senior Technician, Department of Geography, University of Cambridge

Salary: £31,502-£37,386

The Department of Geography has an opening for a Laboratory and Field Senior Technician (LFST), to join the small and collegial Geography Science Laboratories (GSL) team, whose work ensures the successful day-to-day operation, management and maintenance of the Department's field equipment and laboratory facilities. The role holder will work collaboratively alongside another LFST, and under the supervision of the Geography Science Laboratories Manager (GSLM), to support academic-led research activities and the design and delivery of laboratory and field teaching at all levels. Working together, the GSL team provides specialist technical expertise that spans the Department's physical Geography research and teaching foci (see Further Particulars). For the current open position, candidates with experience in field and laboratory methods for palaeoecology and biogeography are particularly encouraged to apply.
