Pilot Whales 😍 Exist 2 species in the world of pilot whales and here, in Madeira we have the tropical species that is the « short finned pilot whales » they can be up to 7 m long and 2 500 kg. In the waters of Madeira Island, Pilot whales are a resident population, that we can see all year round. One of their impressive ability is that they can dive up to 1000 m deep about 20 min maximum and they stay in family groups of females about 8 females for 1 male.
