✅ Portuguese New Law Update From President ✅

The President approved the new nationality law, but he gave some warnings and conditions.

The government now has 90 days to create detailed rules explaining how the new law will work in practice. These rules will be checked again by the President.

The President said he approved the law because he believes:

✳️ The stricter rules and longer waiting times for citizenship should not harm important protections for immigrants and their children born in Portugal.
✳️ Children should still have access to healthcare and education.
✳️ People who already applied for nationality should not be unfairly affected by the new law.
✳️ Delays caused by the government should not increase the waiting time for nationality.

Difference Between the Laws

🚨 Foreigners/Immigration Law: Rules about entering, staying, and leaving Portuga

✅🚨 New Law For Nationality Is Approved 🚨✅

The President of Portugal, António José Seguro, approved a revised Nationality Law but expressed regret that it lacked broader political consensus and carried ideological influence. The new law increases the time required for foreigners to obtain Portuguese citizenship—from 5 to 7 years for EU and Portuguese-speaking countries, and up to 10 years for others.

He supported the law because stricter rules do not harm essential protections like access to healthcare and education, especially for children of immigrants. However, he stressed that ongoing nationality applications must not be affected, warning that this would damage trust in the state.

The law takes effect immediately after publication, but pending cases will still follow the previous rules. The decree was passed by a parliamentary majority after revisions were required due to rulings by the Constitutional Court of Portugal.

✅ Over 23,000 Immigrants Told Leave Country ✅

Portugal’s 2025 internal security report shows a major increase in immigration enforcement. Over 23,000 immigrants were told to leave the country, compared to just 444 in 2024. However, only a small number have actually left so far.

Border controls also became stricter, with more than 2,000 people refused entry, mostly due to missing documents or visas. Inspections of workplaces increased significantly, identifying over 1,000 people living in the country illegally.

At the same time, crimes related to illegal immigration rose sharply, especially cases of “marriages of convenience.
