Today, IPS is joining the Council of Europe’s No Hate Speech Week in Strasbourg.

Following our work on preventing and countering hate speech and hate crime, we were invited by the Council of Europe to present what we are developing through the Cooperhate partnership, an initiative focused on strengthening multisectoral responses to hate speech and hate crime.

Our presentation by Vânia Sampaio, IPS' Head of Unit for Security and Criminal Justice Cooperation (RAD, VE & OC Portfolio) will take place today during the Thematic Sessions in Parallel, from 16:15 to 17:45.
Then, from 17:45 to 19:00, we will be available at the Networking Fair, where we are showcasing other IPS-partnered initiatives addressing related challenges, including SHIELDed, DIGIDEM Project and VicTory Project, part of our support for whole-of-society prevention approaches.

Given the relationship between hate and radicalisation, we will also highlight the supporting services offer available for Member States through the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation.

If you are attending, come meet us. We would be glad to discuss cooperation opportunities and share more about our work.

Anti-discrimination and Inclusion at the Council of Europe

➡️ Invited Panelists: Contributing to Public Space Security and Protection

As public spaces become increasingly exposed to hybrid and evolving threats, the ability to read these dynamics across justice, security and prevention systems is central to resilience.

The European Conference on Public Space Security and Protection this week brings together experts and practitioners to discuss how public spaces can be better understood, protected and made more resilient.

Tomorrow, Pedro Liberado, IPS’ Chief Research Officer and Coordinator of our Radicalisation, Violent Extremism and Organised Crime Portfolio, will join the panel discussion on Public Space Security and Protection.

Pedro’s contribution sits at the intersection of violent extremism and organised crime — two areas central to understanding how risks to public spaces emerge, evolve and connect with wider security challenges. This is a great opportunity to share the work of the SHIELDed partnership in this topic.

It directly connects with our work supporting institutional actors, and increasingly invested in how institutions need to prepare, coordinate and respond to threats before they become crises.

If you are attending, let us know!

📌 JT15 Online Panel // Don't miss it, later this week!
👤 Meet our webinar panelists: We’re pleased to welcome Ashwini Jarral to our upcoming panel discussion on AI in Criminal Justice following his Expert's Panel opening article in this edition.

Opening the floor to the edition's discussions, his article explores how AI is already being used across justice and public safety, and what agencies need to put in place to use it responsibly. Based on published resources from IJIS AI Working Group, he explores practical use cases, from communications, planning and casework to detection and monitoring, while also laying a framework for ensuring governance, transparency, privacy, security, human oversight and public trust.
