SIBYLLA
Reveries of Collective Walkers (Basel)

A glimpse into our June milestone project — dialogue’s first summer exhibition in Basel, during Art Basel week and part of the Art Basel VIP Programme.

Unfolding through the gardens and rooms of the Freie Musikschule, in the heart of Gellertpark, SIBYLLA was inspired by the figure of the oracle and by Maria Sibylla Merian, bringing together all participating artists, musicians, galleries, plants, and audiences in a living ecosystem.

Presenting a selection of works across several media — including performance, sculpture, ceramics, photography, drawing, and painting — the exhibition traced connections to plants, geography, mythology, botany, history, fire, vision, waves, hands, earth, leaves and feathers, trees, caves and sun.

In Reveries of Collective Walkers, Uriel Orlow’s performance, the walkers activated the musicians, who appeared to blend into the plants. Gellertpark provided the perfect setting — and an unexpected natural acoustic quality — for these musical performances: camouflaged by nature, addressed to nature as an invitation to slow down, rewild, and listen.

The six musical acts brought together a repertoire inspired by nature and performed to nature, including works by Schubert / Ernst, Puccini, MacDowell, Ernst, and Tchaikovsky — from Erlkönig to Crisantemi, To a Wild Rose, Last Rose of Summer, and Valse des Fleurs.
